Team Secret CEO’s Actions Uncover the Need to Talk About Mental Health
After getting cut from Team Secret following an early exit during The Six Invitational group stage, I, Jake «Virtue» Grannan, was taken aback. I hadn’t anticipated this turn of events at all, considering the effort and dedication I’ve been pouring into my gameplay. A single rough tournament has now left me in search of a new team, or as they say, LFT (Looking For Team).
A day afterward, Virtue and nearly all members of Siege community were taken aback by a response to this post, which was made by Secret CEO John Yao. He posted a screenshot of the team after they had been eliminated, with Virtue turned away from the group. The caption said: «I too am surprised.
In response to comments perceived as critical towards Virtue, many members of the Siege community have expressed disapproval. Virtue openly shared his emotional state after a disappointing series, admitting he was close to tears and struggled to maintain eye contact with others. Notable players like Leonardo «Kyno» Figueiredo from M80 and Jason «Beaulo» Doty of DarkZero defended Virtue against the criticism. The conversation is filled with players, commentators, coaches, and more voicing their disapproval towards the criticizer (Yao) and support for Virtue.
Although some people are troubled by Yao’s remarks, they’ve undeniably sparked a broader discussion on men’s emotional wellbeing. It’s alright to shed tears, and it’s acceptable to do so in the presence of others.
